BIO

XL is an east coast MC who got his start in the late 80’s and early ninety’s. Hip hop was in full swing with commercial and underground clearly seperated. Underground was king and commercial wore the sell out tag. In this era the seeds of a real MC were planted, lyrics and substance, flow without gimmick and mash out beats to crank your neck. These are some of the elements into the gifted writer and musician know as XL.
Best known as a member of the Kreators XL built his foundation working with the finest MC’s in Boston. A member of the Alvin Terrace All Stars, XL was groomed and pushed at a time when hip hop was making drastic changes. Some underground acts had broken thru to the main stream wich opened up new opportunities for groups to earn the money which had eluded them in the past.
As a member of the Kreators XL enjoyed success with the other members with Numerous Hit Singles, Boston Music Award Nominations and a fairly succesfull stint on MTV2 with the video and single Foreign Lands. The Kreators would have continued success and make a name for themselves until disbanding in 04.
Now gone solo XL has sought to put his own life and prospective on display with 2 new solo projects. It is a new start, a fresh look at an artist who has more to offer than 16 bars and funny skits. First the EP Cutthroat. An 8 song teaser designed to set the tone for the new campaign. Production for Cutthroat was handled by no other than Ferragamo. The young producer hailing from Boston now living in Los Angeles produced a series of headbangers specifically designed for XL. Known for hard hitting drums and emotional sounds this once DJ custom fit Cutthroat with beats that helped XL showcase his often complex lyrics. “ After years of working with so many producers it was a welcome change to have such a committed and professional producer with such a unique sound says XL”
XL delivers non stop flows and vivid story telling from start to finish. Next Spare Change, a display of the many faces, thoughts and styles of a talented and tormented musician. Teaming up with DES(beatclock Productions) and Thuggy Dixwell a.k.a General Dix XL created a 19 song mix tape with all original tracks. Most would consider it and album says XL. To me this shit is easy and I can do it all, these songs, these verses are just like spare change on my dresser. I know that the shit is there but I could give it away or lose it and more change would just pop back up.
Feeling that most artists become typecast, the new work from XL reaches across all borders and gondres of hip-hop while creating and displaying his own style. There is nothing I can’t do with beat and mic say’s XL, I was born to perform, born with a god given gift and I rufuse to hold it all inside me. When I die I want as much of it out as possible so maybe I can finally get some sleep.
Spare Change is XL doing what he does best, making music, making hip-hop and trying to give back to an artform wich saved his life.
